Sustainability

Light Footprint, Lasting Experience

We believe a great stay shouldn't come at nature’s expense. At Coastal Glamping, we take a thoughtful, low-impact approach to everything we do. From the materials we use to the way we run our property; every detail is considered. Each dome is designed to blend into the natural landscape, and your experience reflects our ongoing care and commitment.

Our Sustainability Commitment

As part of our commitment to the Tiaki Promise we undertake to show Manaakitanga & Kaitikaitanga. We are committed to caring for our customers, our staff, our environment, and our community. We believe that visitors to NZ also have a commitment to care for New Zealand also and together, with respect and understanding. We display guardianship and protection of our land, so that future generations can enjoy our beautiful country.

Low-Waste Operations

We purchase our products in bulk to reduce packaging waste. Strict sorting between organic and non-organic waste. Recycling available in each dome, with extensive recycling / repurpose practises throughout the property.

Sensor & Solar Lighting

Throughout the property we are conscious of our light emissions. All exterior lighting has either sensors for movement, or shine with low lumen. The Southern skies offer stupendous night sky gazing, and with minimal light pollution, on a clear evening hours can easily be passed watching the night sky.

Eco-Friendly Toiletries

The Prija collection is inspired by nature with a unique look and feel. Bright amber colours and golden textures are enriched by an enveloping scent that stimulates and indulges your senses with energy and strength. All bathroom products are biodegradable, refillable, and safe for the environment.

Native Plant Landscaping

Our use of native species like the Harakeke & Cabbage tree support biodiversity, minimise watering, act as superb wind deflectors and reflect the local environment. The abundant birdlife, Tui, Weka, Pīwakawaka /Fantail, Ruru/Morepork and Silvereye birds all enjoy our natives.

F&B + Local & Seasonal Suppliers

Where possible, we choose local businesses that value sustainability and responsible sourcing, choosing to work with partners to strengthen our understanding of the supply chain.

Energy efficient & low environmental impact design

The domes are energy efficient for many reasons. The circulation of ambient air inside the dome is continuous, with no stagnant corners, which requires less energy to circulate air and maintain uniform temperatures. The energy needed to heat and cool a dome is about 30% less than that of a conventional building, making climate control reverse cycle air conditioning and the use of solar fans cost effective. Each Dome is also freestanding and elevated, built to preserve the land underneath and around them. Each has the Installation of water-saving devices on taps and shower heads along with Instantaneous Hot Water service.
